52. The Mighty Rock of Ages

1 ‘Tis the mighty Rock of Ages that’s beneath my feet today,
So I need not fear the billows’ angry roar;
Tho’ the winds are wildly raging, tho’ the mountains flee away,
‘Tis the Rock that standeth changeless evermore.

Refrain:
Rock of Ages, naught can shake thee!
Stronger than the “everlasting hills” art thou!
Thou my trust, when ills o’ertake me,
Unto thee the hosts of heav’n and earth shall bow.

2 ‘Tis the mighty Rock of Ages that’s beneath my feet today,
For it stood before the sun and stars were made,
And ‘twill stand when skies above us like a scroll shall pass away;
In its glory to our wond’ring view displayed. [Refrain]

3 ‘Tis the mighty Rock of Ages that was cleft on Calv’ry’s brow;
In its riven side there’s shelter for my soul;
See the streams of peace and cleansing freely, freely gushing now
And there’s life where’er the crimson waters roll. [Refrain]

4 ‘Tis the mighty Rock of Ages, ‘tis the Rock once cleft for me;
Burst my heart, with humble gratitude and love!
Blessed Saviour, thou my refuge! all my hopes are built on thee;
I will praise thee here and in thy home above. [Refrain]
