154b. HYMN 339

1 One sweetly solemn thought
Comes to me o’er and o’er:
I'm nearer my home to-day
Than I’ve ever been before.

2 Nearer my Father’s house,
Where the many mansions be;
Nearer the great white throne,
Nearer the jasper sea:

3 Nearer the bound of life
Where we lay our burdens down,
Nearer leaving my cross,
Nearer wearing my crown.

4 But lying darkly between,
Winding down through the night,
Is that dim and unknown stream
Which leads at last to light.

5 Father, perfect my trust,
Strengthen my feeble faith,
Let me feel as if I trod
The shore of the river death.

6 For even now my feet
May stand upon its brink;
I may be nearer my home,
Nearer now, than I think.
