Arnold, Emmy von Hollander. (Riga, Latvia, 1884-January 15, 1980, Rifton, NY). Grew up in Halle, Germany. Married Eberhard Arnold in 1909. In 1920, they, with their five children and a small group of convinced Christians, started a life of Christian community based on the Sermon on the Mount at Sannerz near Schlüchtern, Germany. She was co-editor of Sonnenlieder, the first Bruderhof songbook (Sannerz, 1924). For many years Housemother of Bruderhof communities (Society of Brothers) and an active member at the Woodcrest community, Rifton, NY. Also compiler of Inner Words for EVery Day of the Year (Rifton, NY, 1964, 1971, 1977), author of Torches Together (Rifton, NY, 1964, 1971, paperback 1976), and coauthor of Seeking for the Kingdom of God (Rifton, NY, 1974).
