Graduated from Bethany College, 1845. President of Arkansas College (Fayetteville), 1860-1863. His Pea Ridge and Prairie Grove (1864) tells of his experience as an anti-slavery advocate in a seceding state. He contributed hymns to such books as Christian Psalmist, Revised (1854), Christian Hymn Book (1865), and Christian Hymnal, Revised (1882).
