God, we praise you. God we bless you.

Author: Christopher Martin Idle (b. 1938) Meter: 8.7.8.7 D Appears in 30 hymnals Scripture: Ephesians 2:5 Lyrics: 1 God, we praise you. God, we bless you. God, we name you sovereign Lord. Mighty King whom angels worship, Father, by your church adored: all creation shows your glory, heaven and earth draw near your throne singing 'Holy, holy, holy, Lord of hosts, and God alone!' 2 True apostles, faithful prophets, saints who set their world ablaze, martyrs, once unknown, unheeded, join one growing song of praise, while your church on earth confesses one majestic Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, God, our hope eternally. 3 Jesus Christ, the king of glory, everlasting Son of God, humble was your virgin mother, hard the lonely path you trod: by your cross is sin defeated, hell confronted face to face, heaven opened to believers, sinners justified by grace. 4 Christ, at God's right hand victorious, you will judge the world you made; Lord, in mercy help your servants for whose freedom you have paid: raise us up from dust to glory, guard us from all sin today; King enthroned above all praises, save your people, God, we pray. Topics: God in Trinity Used With Tune: ODE TO JOY Text Sources: Te Deum

Renew Your Church

Author: Kenneth L. Cober, 1902- Meter: 10.6.10.6.8.8.8.6 Appears in 27 hymnals Scripture: Ephesians 2:14-18 First Line: Renew your church, our ministries restore Lyrics: 1 Renew your church, our ministries restore: both to serve and adore. Make us again as salt throughout the land, and as light from a stand. 'Mid somber shadows of the night, where greed and hatreds spread their blight, O send us forth with power endued, help us, Lord, be renewed. 2 Teach us your Word, reveal its truth divine, on our path let it shine; tell of your works, your mighty acts of grace, from each page show your face. As you have loved us, sent your Son, and our salvation now is won, O let our hearts with love be stirred, help us, Lord, know your Word. 3 Teach us to pray, for you are ever near, your still voice let us hear. Our souls are restless till they rest in you, this the goal we pursue. Before your presence keep us still that we may find for us your will, and seek your guidance every day, teach us, Lord, how to pray. 4 Teach us to love, with strength of heart and mind, each and all, humankind; break down old walls of prejudice and hate, leave us not to our fate. As you have loved and given your life to end hostility and strife, O share your grace from heaven above, teach us, Lord, how to love. Used With Tune: ALL IS WELL

Salvation unto Us Has Come

Author: Paul Speratus, 1484-1551 Meter: 8.7.8.7.8.8.7 Appears in 20 hymnals Scripture: Ephesians 2:1-10 Lyrics: 1 Salvation unto us has come By God's free grace and favor; Good works cannot avert our doom, They help and save us never. Faith looks to Jesus Christ alone, Who did for all the world atone; He is our one Redeemer. 2 What God did in His Law demand And none to Him could render Caused wrath and woe on ev'ry hand For man, the vile offender. Our flesh has not those pure desires The spirit of the Law requires, And lost is our condition. 3 It was a false, misleading dream That God His Law had given That sinners could themselves redeem And by their works gain heaven. The Law is but a mirror bright To bring the inbred sin to light That lurks within our nature. 4 From sin our flesh could not abstain, Sin held its sway unceasing; The task was useless and in vain, Our guilt was e'er increasing. None can remove sin's poisoned dart Or purify our guileful heart-- So deep is our corruption. 5 Yet as the law must be fulfilled Or we must die despairing, Christ came and has God's anger stilled, Our human nature sharing. He has for us the Law obeyed And thus the Father's vengeance stayed Which over us impended. 6 Since Christ has full atonement made And brought to us salvation, Each Christian therefore may be glad And build on this foundation. Your grace alone, dear Lord, I plead, Your death is now my life indeed, For You have paid my ransom. 7 Let me not doubt, but truly see Your Word cannot be broken: Your call rings out, "Come unto Me!" No falsehood have You spoken. Baptized into Your precious name, My faith cannot be put to shame, And I shall never perish. 8 The Law reveals the guilt of sin And makes us conscience-stricken; But then the Gospel enters in The sinful soul to quicken. Come to the cross, trust Christ, and live; The Law no peace can ever give, No comfort and no blessing. 9 Faith clings to Jesus' cross alone And rests in Him unceasing; And by its fruits true faith is known, With love and hope increasing. For faith alone can justify; Works serve our neighbor and supply The proof that faith is living. 10 All blessing, honor, thanks, and praise To Father, Son, and Spirit, The God who saved us by His grace; All glory to His merit. O triune God in heav'n above, You have revealed Your saving love; Your blessed name we hallow. Used With Tune: ES IST DAS HEIL Text Sources: The Lutheran Hymnal, 1941 (Tr.)
