When grief is raw and music goes unheard

Author: Brian Wren (b. 1936) Appears in 6 hymnals Scripture: 1 Corinthians 2:9 Lyrics: 1 When grief is raw and music goes unheard, and thought is numb, we have no polished phrases to recite. In Christ we come to hear the old familiar words: 'I am the resurrection. I am life'. 2 God, give us time for gratitude and tears, and make us free to grieve, remember, honour, and delight. Let love be strong to bear regrets and banish fears: 'I am the resurrection. I am life'. 3 The height and breadth of all that love prepares soars out of time, beyond our speculation and our sight. The cross remains to ground the promise that it bears: 'I am the resurrection. I am life'. 4 All shall be judged, the greatest and the least, and all be loved, till every hurt is healed, all wrong set right. In bread and wine we taste the great homecoming feast, and in the midst of death we are in life. Farther On

Author: Flora Kirkland Appears in 5 hymnals Scripture: 1 Corinthians 2:9 First Line: Farther on, what joys await us Lyrics: 1 Farther on, what joys await us, In the palace of our King! Looking up, with hearts expectant, Of the future we may sing. Refrain: Farther on, the way grows brighter:— Father on, the light grows clear;— We shall see, with perfect vision, What is dimly mirrored here. 2 Hopes may fail, and joys elude us, Treasures flutter from our hold; Farther on, where faith is pointing, Lies the land of bliss untold. [Refrain] 3 Thro’ the darkest night of sorrow, If the soul on Christ be stayed; Shines afar, a bright tomorrow; Where the light shall never fade. [Refrain] 4 Thro’ the wintry storms of trouble, Faith discerns yon country blest; Where abides eternal springtime, Love and joy and peace and rest. [Refrain] Topics: Heaven Used With Tune: [Farther on, what joys await us]

The bright wind is blowing, the bright wind of heaven

Author: Cecily Taylor (b. 1930) Meter: 12.11.12.11 Appears in 3 hymnals Scripture: 1 Corinthians 2:4 Lyrics: 1 The bright wind is blowing, the bright wind of heaven, and where it is going to, no one can say; but where it is passing our hearts are awaking to grope from the darkness and reach for the day. 2 The bright wind is blowing, the bright wind of heaven, and many old thoughts will be winnowed away; the husk that is blown is the chaff of our hating, the seed that is left is the hope for our day. 3 The bright wind is blowing, the bright wind of heaven, the love that it kindles will never betray; the fire that it fans is the warmth of our caring, so lean on the wind, it will show us the way.
