When grief is raw and music goes unheard

Author: Brian Wren (b. 1936) Appears in 6 hymnals Scripture: Revelation 19:6-9 Lyrics: 1 When grief is raw and music goes unheard, and thought is numb, we have no polished phrases to recite. In Christ we come to hear the old familiar words: 'I am the resurrection. I am life'. 2 God, give us time for gratitude and tears, and make us free to grieve, remember, honour, and delight. Let love be strong to bear regrets and banish fears: 'I am the resurrection. I am life'. 3 The height and breadth of all that love prepares soars out of time, beyond our speculation and our sight. The cross remains to ground the promise that it bears: 'I am the resurrection. I am life'. 4 All shall be judged, the greatest and the least, and all be loved, till every hurt is healed, all wrong set right. In bread and wine we taste the great homecoming feast, and in the midst of death we are in life. Refrain: God is coming, O my brother, Can you face the solemn day? All the pure His angels gather, The defiled become a prey. 2 Jesus gave His life to purchase For Himself a spotless bride— All who fear Him and obey Him Cleansed beneath the crimson tide. [Refrain] 3 To preserve her pure and spotless He must make a sacrifice; Give to evil spirits supper, All who give to sin a place. [Refrain] 4 See His sword is bathed in heaven, And the mountains strewn with dead; All ye birds and beasts assemble, Lo, a feast for you is spread. [Refrain] 5 Hear the angel loudly crying, Standing in the blazing sun; Wake, O man, while time is flying, For the judgment has begun. O Worship the King

Author: Robert Grant (1779-1838) Meter: 10.10.11.11 Appears in 1,142 hymnals Scripture: Revelation 19:11-16 First Line: O worship the King, all glorious above Lyrics: 1 O worship the King, all glorious above; O gratefully sing his power and his love; our shield and defender, the Ancient of Days, pavilioned in splendour and girded with praise. 2 O tell of his might, O sing of his grace, whose robe is the light, whose canopy space; his chariots of wrath the deep thunderclouds form, and dark is his path on the wings of the storm. 3 The earth with its store of wonders untold, Almighty, thy power hath founded of old, hath stablished it fast by a changeless decree, and round it hath cast, like a mantle, the sea. 4 Thy bountiful care, what tongue can recite? It breathes in the air; it shines in the light; it streams from the hills, it descends to the plain, and sweetly distils in the dew and the rain. 5 Frail children of dust, and feeble as frail, in thee do we trust, nor find thee to fail; thy mercies how tender, how firm to the end, our maker, defender, redeemer, and friend. 6 O measureless Might, ineffable Love, while angels delight to hymn thee above, the humbler creation, though feeble their lays, with true adoration shall sing to thy praise. Topics: Adoration; Praise of God; Repentance Used With Tune: HANOVER

Praise, my soul, the King of heaven

Author: Henry Francis Lyte (1793-1847) Meter: 8.7.8.7.4.4.7 Appears in 539 hymnals Scripture: Revelation 19:11-16 Lyrics: 1 Praise, my soul, the King of heaven; to his feet thy tribute bring; ransomed, healed, restored, forgiven, who like me his praise should sing? Praise him! Praise him! Praise the everlasting King. 2 Praise him for his grace and favour to our fathers in distress; praise him, still the same for ever, slow to chide, and swift to bless: Praise him! Praise him! glorious in his faithfulness. 3 Father-like he tends and spares us; well our feeble frame he knows; in his hands he gently bears us, rescues us from all our foes: Praise him! Praise him! widely as his mercy flows. 4 Frail as summer's flower we flourish; blows the wind and it is gone; but, while mortals rise and perish, God endures unchanging on. Praise him! Praise him! Praise the high eternal One. 5 Angels, help us to adore him; ye behold him face to face; sun and moon, bow down before him; dwellers all in time and space. Praise him! Praise him! Praise with us the God of grace.
