Praise be to Christ in whom we see

Author: Timothy Dudley-Smtih (born 1926) Appears in 3 hymnals Lyrics: 1 Praise be to Christ in whom we see the image of the Father shown, the first-born Son revealed and known, the truth and grace of deity; through whom creation came to birth, whose fingers set the stars in place, the unseen powers, and this small earth, the furthest bounds of time and space. 2 Praise be to him whose sovereign sway and will upholds creation's plan; who is, before all worlds began and when our world has passed away: Lord of the church, its life and head, redemption's price and source and theme, alive, the first-born from the dead, to reign as all-in-all supreme. 3 Praise be to him who, Lord most high, the fullness of the Godhead shares; and yet our human nature bears, who came as man to bleed and die: and from his cross there flows our peace who chose for us the path he trod, that so might sins and sorrows cease and all be reconciled to God. O Day of Peace That Dimly Shines

Author: Carl P. Daw, Jr. Meter: 8.8.8.8 Appears in 22 hymnals Lyrics: 1 O day of peace that dimly shines through all our hopes and prayers and dreams, guide us to justice, truth, and love, delivered from our selfish schemes. May swords of hate fall from our hands, our hearts from envy find release, till by God's grace our warring world shall see Christ's promised reign of peace. 2 Then shall the wolf dwell with the lamb, nor shall the fierce devour the small; as beasts and cattle calmly graze, a little child shall lead them all. Then enemies shall learn to love, all creatures find their true accord; the hope of peace shall be fulfilled, for all the earth shall know the Lord. We Come to Worship in Praise of Our Maker

Author: Mary Jackson Cathey Meter: Irregular Appears in 1 hymnal Lyrics: We come to worship in praise of our Maker with thanks for all blessings bestowed by God's grace. The faith which is nurtured in each generation now brings us together in this sacred place. The words of Scripture have giv'n the message which leads us to do what we say we believe, lending strength for challenges waiting before us we search for the light God would have us receive. Give thanks for lessons our ancestors taught us who modeled the virtues of courage and care, who were loyally steadfast to country and loved ones, who gave us the heart and the vision to share. Let us live our days asking for God's guidance that shows us the purpose which God has conceived, finding strength for days of the journey before us and mindful of blessings that we have received. For love of life and their own priceless freedom, for strong, sturdy souls who were willing to die, for the triune God and beliefs that sustained them when faced with hard choices to stand firm and try. In the long tradition that framed and shaped them with family and faith still directing their ways, we now go forward to live, work, and worship, to glorify God through the rest of our days. Go out rejoicing for gifts of the Spirit, as varied as kilts of our heritage signs. The fire of kindred still burning within us holds fast as the weaves in our family designs. We abide with God who will not desert us, whose care and protection and guidance is ours. Follow faithfully in the path God has chosen to live all our days as the Spirit empowers. All Things Are Thine

Author: John Greenleaf Whittier (1807-1892) Meter: 8.8.8.8 Appears in 92 hymnals First Line: All things are thine; no gift have we Lyrics: 1 All things are thine; no gift have we, Lord of all gifts, to offer thee; and so with grateful hearts today thine own before thy feet we lay. Thy will was informed builders' thought; thy hand unseen amidst us wrought; through mortal motive, scheme, and plan, thy wise eternal purpose ran. 2 No lack thy perfect fullness knew; for human needs and longings grew this house of prayer, this home of rest, where grace is shared and truth addressed. In weakness and in want, we call on thee for whom the heavens are small; thy glory is thy children's good, thy joy fulfilled in servanthood. 3 All things are thine; no gift have we, Lord of all gifts, to offer thee; and so with grateful hearts today thine own before thy feet we lay. Come now and deign these walls to bless; fill with thy love their emptiness; and let their door a gateway be to lead us from ourselves to thee.
