A few more years shall roll

Author: H. Bonar Hymnal: HPEC1917 #203a (1898) Meter: 6.6.8.6 D Lyrics: 1 A few more years shall roll, A few more seasons come, And we shall be with those that rest Asleep within the tomb; Then, O my Lord, prepare My soul for that great day; Oh, wash me in Thy precious blood, And take my sins away. 2 A few more suns shall set, O'er these dark hills of time, And we shall be where suns are not, A far serener clime: Then, O my Lord, prepare My soul for that blest day; Oh, wash me in Thy precious blood, And take my sins away. 3 A few more storms shall beat On this wild rocky shore, And we shall be where tempests cease, And surges swell no more: Then, O my Lord, prepare My soul for that calm day; Oh, wash me in Thy precious blood, And take my sins away. 4 A few more struggles here, A few more partings o'er, A few more toils, a few more tears, And we shall weep no more: Then, O my Lord, prepare My soul for that bright day; Oh, wash me in Thy precious blood, And take my sins away. 5 'Tis but a little while And He shall come again, Who died that we might live, Who lives That we with Him may reign: Then, O my Lord, prepare My soul for that glad day; Oh, wash me in Thy precious blood, And take my sins away. Amen. Topics: The Old Year; The Old Year; Burial of the Dead; Old Year; Parochial Missions Languages: English Tune Title: CHALVEY

According to Thy gracious word

Author: J. Montgomery Hymnal: HPEC1917 #233b (1898) Meter: 8.6.8.6 Lyrics: 1 According to Thy gracious word, In meek humility, This will I do, my dying Lord, I will remember Thee. 2 Thy body, broken for my sake, My bread from heaven shall be; The cup, Thy precious blood, I take, And thus remember Thee? 3 Gethsemane, can I forget? Or there Thy conflict see, Thine agony and bloody sweat, And not remember Thee? 4 When to the cross I turn mine eyes And rest on Calvary, O Lamb of God, my sacrifice, I must remember Thee. 5 And when these failing lips grow dumb, And mind and memory flee, When Thou shalt in Thy Kingdom come, Then, Lord, remember me. Amen. Topics: Holy Communion Tune Title: REMEMBRANCE

Across the sky the shades of night

Author: J. Hamilton Hymnal: HPEC1917 #202 (1898) Meter: 8.7.8.7.8.8.7 Lyrics: 1 Across the sky the shades of night This Winter's eve are fleeting: We deck Thine altar, Lord, with light, In solemn worship meeting: And as the year's last hours go by, We lift to Thee our earnest cry. Once more Thy love entreating. 2 Before the cross, subdued we bow, To Thee our prayers addressing; Recounting all Thy mercies now, And all our sins confessing; Beseeching Thee, this coming year, To hold us in Thy faith and fear, And crown us with Thy blessing. 3 And, while we kneel, we lift our eyes To dear ones gone before us, Safe housed with Thee in Paradise, Whose peace descendeth o'er us: And beg of Thee, when life is past, To re-unite us all, at last, And to our loss restore us. 4 We gather up, in this brief hour, The memory of Thy mercies: Thy wondrous goodness, love, and power, Our grateful song rehearses: For Thou hast been our strength and stay, In many a dark and dreary day Of sorrow and reverses. 5 In many an hour, when fear and dread, Like evil spells hath bound us, And clouds were gathering overhead, Thy providence hath found us: In many a night when waves run high, Thy gracious presence drawing nigh Hath made all calm around us. 6 Then, O Great God, in years to come, Whatever fate betide us, Right onward through our journey home Be Thou at hand to guide us: Nor leave us till, at close of life, Safe from all perils, toil, and strife, Heaven shall unfold and hide us. Amen. Topics: The Old Year; Old Year Languages: English Tune Title: ATTOLLE PAULUM
