Join all the glorious names

Author: Isaac Watts (1674-1748) Meter: 6.6.6.6.4.4.4.4 Appears in 336 hymnals Lyrics: 1 Join all the glorious names of wisdom, love, and power, that ever mortals knew, that angels ever bore: all are too mean to speak his worth, too mean to set my Saviour forth. 2 But O what gentle terms, what condescending ways doth our Redeemer use to teach his heavenly grace! Mine eyes with joy and wonder see what forms of love he bears for me. 3 Great Prophet of my God, my tongue would bless thy name; by thee the joyful news of our salvation came: the joyful news of sins forgiven, of hell subdued and peace with heaven. 4 Jesus my great High-Priest offered his blood and died; my guilty conscience seeks no sacrifice beside: his powerful blood did once atone, and now it pleads before the throne. 5 My dear almighty Lord, my Conqueror and my King, thy sceptre and thy sword, thy reign of grace, I sing; thine is the power: behold I sit in willing bonds before thy feet. 6 Now let my soul arise, and tread the tempter down; my Captain leads me forth to conquest and a crown. A feeble saint shall win the day, though death and hell obstruct the way. 7 Should all the hosts of death, and powers of hell unknown, put their most dreadful forms of rage and mischief on, I shall be safe, for Christ displays superior power, and guardian grace. The Lord Jehovah reigns

Author: Isaac Watts Meter: 6.6.6.6.4.4.4.4 Appears in 267 hymnals Lyrics: The Lord Jehovah reigns, His throne is built on high; The garments he assumes Are light and majesty: His glories shine With beams so bright, No mortal eye Can bear the sight. The thunders of his hand Keep the wide world in awe; His wrath and justice stand To guard his holy law: And where his love Resolves to bless, His truth confirms And seals the grace. Through all his ancient works Surprising wisdom shines, Confounds the powers of hell, And breaks their cursed designs: Strong is his arm, And shall fulfil His great decrees, His sovereign will. And can this mighty King Of glory condescend? And will he write his name, "My Father and my Friend?" I love his name, I love his word; Join all my powers And praise the Lord. Topics: Children instructed; Education religious; Religious Education; Providence recorded; Backsliding soul pardoned; Glutton; Intemperance punished; Israel rebellion and punishment; Luxury punished; Pardon of backsliding; Punishment and salvation; Saints punished and saved; Sin and chastisement of saints Scripture: Psalm 78:32-72
