Sarah Graham

1854 - 1889 Person Name: Sarah Jean Graham Hymnal Title: Celebremos Su Gloria Author of "En la vergonzosa cruz" in Celebremos Su Gloria Graham, Sarah. (Lindsay, Ontario, c. 1854--1889). Salvation Army. This amateur song-writer joined the Army as a result of unexpectedly hearing two of its members sing a duet of hers at a local meeting. Most of the songs she proceeded to write achieved only regional use, but a few found their way into the Army's international repertoire. Her associates tried, but failed, to help her overcome her depression which overtook her after her fiance's sudden death, which, they felt, hastened her own. --Hugh D. McKellar, DNAH Archives

Many of these collections were first published by the John Hood Company and later by Kirkpatrick's own Praise Publishing Company, both in Philadelphia. Bert Polman

Anonymous

Person Name: Anónimo Hymnal Title: The Cyber Hymnal Author of "En La Vergonzosa Cruz" in The Cyber Hymnal In some hymnals, the editors noted that a hymn's author is unknown to them, and so this artificial "person" entry is used to reflect that fact. Obviously, the hymns attributed to "Author Unknown" "Unknown" or "Anonymous" could have been written by many people over a span of many centuries.
