We Sing the Mighty Power of God

Author: Isaac Watts Meter: 8.6.8.6 D Appears in 471 hymnals Scripture: Genesis 1 Lyrics: 1 We sing the mighty power of God that made the mountains rise, that spread the flowing seas abroad and built the lofty skies. We sing the wisdom that ordained the sun to rule the day; the moon shines full at his command, and all the stars obey. 2 We sing the goodness of the Lord that filled the earth with food; he formed the creatures with his word and then pronounced them good. Lord, how your wonders are displayed, where'er we turn our eyes, if we survey the ground we tread or gaze upon the skies. 3 There's not a plant or flower below but makes your glories known, and clouds arise and tempests blow by order from your throne; while all that borrows life from you is ever in your care, and everywhere that we can be, you, God, are present there. For the Healing of the Nations

Author: Fred Kaan, 1929- Meter: 8.7.8.7.8.7 Appears in 58 hymnals Scripture: Genesis 1:27 Lyrics: 1 For the healing of the nations, Lord, we pray with one accord, for a just and equal sharing of the things that earth affords. To a life of love in action help us rise and pledge our word. 2 Lead your people into freedom, from despair your world release, that, redeemed from war and hatred, all may come and go in peace. Show us how, through care and goodness, fear will die and hope increase. 3 All that kills abundant living, let it from the earth be banned: pride of status, race, or schooling, dogmas that obscure your plan. In our common quest for justice may we hallow life's brief span. 4 You, Creator God, have written your great name on humankind; for our growing in your likeness, bring the life of Christ to mind; that by our response and service earth its destiny may find. Your living likeness still we bear, though marred, dishonored, disobeyed. We come, with all our heart and mind your call to hear, your love to find. 2 Great God, in Christ you call our name and then receive us as your own, not through some merit, right or claim, but by your gracious love alone. We strain to glimpse your mercy seat and find you kneeling at our feet. 3 Then take the towel, and break the bread, and humble us, and call us friends. Suffer and serve till all are fed, and show how grandly love intends to work till all creation sings, to fill all worlds, to crown all things. 4 Great God, in Christ you set us free your life to live, your joy to share. For Your Gift of God the Spirit

Author: Margaret Clarkson Meter: 8.7.8.7 D Appears in 10 hymnals Scripture: Genesis 1:2 Lyrics: 1 For your gift of God the Spirit, power to make our lives anew, pledge of life and hope of glory, Savior, we would worship you. Crowning gift of resurrection sent from your ascended throne, fullness of the very Godhead, come to make your life our own. 2 He, who in creation's dawning brooded on the lifeless deep, still across our nature's darkness moves to wake our souls from sleep, moves to stir, to draw, to quicken, thrusts us through with sense of sin; brings to birth and seals and fills us-- saving Advocate within. 3 He, himself the living Author, wakes to life the sacred Word; reads with us its holy pages and reveals our risen Lord. He it is who works within us, teaching rebel hearts to pray, he whose holy intercessions rise for us both night and day. 4 He, the mighty God, indwells us; his to strengthen, help, empower; his to overcome the Tempter-- ours to call in danger's hour. In his strength we dare to battle all the raging hosts of sin, and by him alone we conquer foes without and foes within. 5 Father, grant your Holy Spirit in our hearts may rule today, grieved not, quenched not, but unhindered, work in us his sovereign way. Genesis 1: Let heav'n arise, let earth appear

Meter: 8.6.8.6 Appears in 20 hymnals Scripture: Genesis 1 First Line: Let heav'n arise, let earth appear Lyrics: Let heav’n arise, let earth appear, said the Almighty Lord: The heav’n arose, the earth appeared, at his creating word. Thick darkness brooded o’er the deep: God said, ‘Let there be light:’ The light shone forth with smiling ray, and scattered ancient night. He bade the clouds ascend on high; the clouds ascend, and bear A wat’ry treasure to the sky, and float upon the air. The liquid element below was gathered by his hand; The rolling seas together flow, and leave the solid land. With herbs, and plants, and fruitful trees, the new-formed globe he crowned, Ere there was rain to bless the soil, or sun to warm the ground. Then high in heav’n’s resplendent arch he placed two orbs of light, He set the sun to rule the day, the moon to rule the night. Next, from the deep, th’ Almighty King did vital beings frame; Fowls of the air of every wing, and fish of every name. To all the various brutal tribes he gave their wondrous birth; At once the lion and the worm sprung from the teeming earth. Then, chief o’er all his works below, at last was Adam made; His Maker’s image blessed his soul, and glory crowned his head. Fair in th’ Almighty Maker’s eye the whole creation stood. Let all our toil be used, no gift of yours abused, no humble task refused your love bestows. 4 God of the countryside, dear to the Christ who died to make us one: we pledge our lives anew in faithful love to you.
