Hallelujah! schöner Morgen,
schöner, als man denken mag!
Heute fühl ich keine Sorgen,
denn das ist ein lieber Tag,
der durch seine Lieblichkeit
recht das Innerste erfreut.

1 Hallelujah! fairest morning!
Fairer than our words can say!
Down we lay the heavy burden
of our toil and care today,
while this morn of joy and love
brings fresh vigor from above.

2 In the gladness of God’s worship
we will seek our joy today.
It is then we learn the fullness
of the grace for which we pray,
when the word of life is giv’n,
like the Savior’s voice from heav’n.

3 Let the day with you be ended,
as with you it has begun;
and your blessing, God, be granted,
till earth’s days and weeks are done;

Miss Jane Borthwick, the translator of this hymn and many others, is of Scottish family. Her sister (Mrs. Eric Findlater) and herself edited "Hymns from the Land of Luther" (1854). Author: Jonathan Krause

Krause, Jonathan, son of Christian Wilhelm Krause, Master of the Clothworkers and Sexton at Hirschberg, in Silesia, was born at Hirschberg, April 5, 1701. Entering the University of Leipzig in 1718, he went in 1723 to Wittenberg, where he graduated M.A. He was then for some time travelling tutor to a young Baron von Birken, and 1727-32 a tutor in the family of Baron von Nostitz, at Polgsen, near Wohlau. On Aug. 20, 1732, he was ordained as Diaconus of Probsthayn, near Liegnitz, and in 1739 became chief pastor of the Church of St. Peter and St. Paul at Liegnitz. In 1741 he was also appointed Superintendent and Assessor of the Consistory. He died at Liegnitz, Dec. 13, 1762 (S. J.
