Representative Text

1 His blessed face I cannot see,
But still beside me day by day,
I know my Savior walks with me,
And leads me so I cannot stray.

Refrain:
He walks with me, he walks with me,
Oh, what a joy his child to be!
Exultingly my heart can sing,
Glad hallelujahs to my King.

2 Ah, not my own am I, for he
Hath bound me with the cords of love;
Thro’ life, thro’ death, he guideth me
To mansions fair prepared above. [Refrain]

3 Oft hedged with thorns I find my way,
But still his presence bears me thro’;
From strength to strength I go each day,
Supported by this Friend so true. [Refrain]

4 Close clinging to that blessed hand,
By faith I journey here below,
Content that in the better land
The goodness of my Lord I’ll know. [Refrain]

Lizzie De Armond was a prolific writer of children's hymns, recitations and exercises. When she was twelve years old her first poem was published in the Germantown, Pa. Telegraph, however, it was not until she was a widow with eight children to support that she started writing in earnest. She wrote articles, librettos, nature stories and other works, as well as hymns.
