Representative Text

1 Tell me, pray, who is my neighbor?
Is it one who dwelleth nigh?
Those who need thy help are neighbors,
If their need thou canst supply.

Refrain:
Tell me, pray, who is my neighbor?
Show me what my hands can do?
God will show thee, He will help thee;
To thy holy trust be true.

1 Tell me, then, my Heav’n-sent duty
To my neighbor far and near.
As thyself thou still shalt love him;
Hark, the word rings loud and clear! [Refrain]

3 Bind the chain of love about them,
Love that from no service shrinks;
This alone will reach and hold them,
Chain of love, with golden links. [Refrain]

4 By the grace of God I promise
Now to learn of those in need;
I will love and live to serve them,
For my neighbors daily plead. [Refrain]

5 I will go where Jesus leads me,
I will do what He commands,
Send afar the blessèd tidings,
To these distant, darkened lands. [Refrain]
