94. Send the Tidings

1 Send the tidings of salvation,
Far and wide to every clime;
Let the morning rise in splendor,
Promised long in olden time.
Lovely morn of Zion’s glory,
When her children now oppressed,
Shall be gathered, out of bondage
From the East and from the West.

2 While the lines to us have fallen
In a goodly pleasant land,
May we bring our gifts before Thee,
Lay them down with willing hand;
Send the glorious news of pardon,
Into realms of deepest night;
Tell the souls that sit in darkness
Jesus came to bring them light.

3 While with cheerful hearts we gather
In the homes to us so dear,
Many bow themselves to idols
That can neither see nor hear;
Speed, O speed the blessed message,
Sound abroad the Saviour’s fame,
Go ye forth and preach the gospel
Go ye forth in Jesus’ name.
