28. Only a Word

1 Only a smile, it quicken’d the heart of one bowed down;
Only a touch, it waken’d a hope that was most gone;
Only a look, it sweeten’d the dregs of a bitter cup,
Only a heart-throb tender, but another soul looked up.

Refrain:
Only a smile or a touch,
A look or a tender word;
Only a cup of water,
But the Master saw and heard
Better are these than jewels that gleam in a monarch’s crown,
And in the Book of Record they all are written down.

2 Only a kind word spoken a sad one by the way,
Healing a broken heart, making brighter all the day;
Only a cup of water ‘twas given a thirsty soul,
Only a drop of comfort, but it helped to reach the goal. [Refrain]

3 Only a bird’s sweet carol, (it sat upon the tree,)
It banished all my sadness and brought back hope to me;
Only a little flower that bloomed in the forest dell,
Whispering, “God’s in heaven and on the earth all’s well.” [Refrain]
