104. Heaven Within

1 We press on o'er life's rugged pathway, and wait
The summons to enter the beautiful gate,
It opens before us to saints as they win,
We catch the sweet chorus of Heaven within.

Refrain:
Heaven within, Heaven within,
O grant us, dear Savior, this Heaven within.

2 How heavy the heart with its burden of care,
How patient the spirit that waits unto prayer,
That leaves at its cross foot, its weakness and sin,
And strengthened for all things, has Heaven within. [Refrain]

3 The storm-clouds of sorrow may darken the day,
The lamp of the Christian is burning alway;
He sees by its glimmer, the love that hath been
His guide and his solace, his Heaven within [Refrain]

4 Dear Savior, we ask not that storms be o'er past,
But only a rest in thy haven at last;
That we may be number'd with those who shall win.
Who bear thro' this earth-life, a Heaven within. [Refrain]
