16. Carry the Light

1 In the dark heathen night they are dwelling,
Many millions of sin-laden hearts;
Never seeing the light of salvation,
Never knowing the joy it imparts.

Refrain:
Carry the light, the soul cheering light,
Into the night, the dark heathen night;
Telling the story of Christ and His glory,
The One who is mighty to save.

2 Bowing down to the idols before them,
Unavailing their sorrow and tears;
For no peace they can find without Jesus,
He alone can dispell all their fears. [Refrain]

3 Can we longer with selfish ambition,
Only labor to care for our needs?
When our brother in need of assistance,
And for light, unavailingly pleads. [Refrain]

4 Shall we longer deny them the gospel,
Let us hasten to go or to give;
That the multitude millions in darkness
May behold their Redeemer and live. [Refrain]
