169. The Prince of Glory

1 The Prince of glory, God’s own son,
Descended from the skies,
Where praises to his Father’s name
In endless measure rise.
To save a lost and sinful race,
In Satan’s fetters bound,
For this he made the wondrous choice,
To him all praise resound.

2 He came from heaven’s glory bright,
From God’s own glory shone;
From those eternal realms of day,
Around his Father’s throne.
His love for me, a sinful man,
Thus manifested great,
Extends to me this present hour,
My answer to await.

3 Yes, Christ to sinful man came down,
To suffer patiently;
To be betrayed and put to shame,
And nailed upon the tree.
All this for me the Son of God
Endured with wondrous love,
To show to me the way of life,
To his own home above.
