190. Jesus Is Pleading

1 Gently the voice of the Savior is pleading,
Tenderly pleading, my brother, with thee,
Leave thou the world with its grandeur and glory,
Take up thy cross and come follow thou me.

Chorus:
List to the voice that so sweetly is pleading,
Looking beyond all earth’s trials and pain,
Take up thy cross and go follow the Savior,
Serving him truly from day unto day.

2 Take up thy cross and go forward rejoicing,
Looking beyond all earth’s trials and pain,
Unto the light of the homeland so blessed,
Where thou if faithful with Jesus shalt reign. [Chorus]

3 Take up thy cross tho’ so heavy it seemeth,
Tho’ in thy weakness it boweth thee down,
Christ is beside thee to strengthen and cheer thee,
Over it streameth the light of a crown. [Chorus]

4 Take up thy cross now and follow thy Savior,
Gladly and cheerfully day after day,
Fear not to follow where’er he may lead thee,
He will be with thee thro’ all of the way. [Chorus]
