24. Go, Then Go

1 O’er the oceans’ stormy billows,
In the countries far away,
Millions dwell in heathen darkness
With no gleam of gospel day;
Sin and suff’ring, want and sorrow,
Bind them fast with iron band,
Superstition’s dreadful folly
Writes the laws their souls demand.

Refrain:
Go, then go in Jesus’ name,
With the lost by deeds of love,
Comfort ye, the broken hearted,
Point them to that home above.

2 On our broad and fertile prairies,
In the far off lands of snow
In our sunny southern borders
Where the fragrant flowers glow,
Where no church bell’s sacred music
On the breezes rise and swell,
Thousands dwell without the message
Jesus bade us go and tell [Refrain]

3 All around us men are dwelling
Bound by habit’s evil chain,
In our cities there are thousands
With no tho’t but that of gain,
Little children vainly reaching
Pallid hands for living bread,
Cast it out upon the waters
That God’s millions may be fed. [Refrain]
