120. God's Promises

1 When I am bowed with grief and loss,
And sore distressed,
I read the sweet old promises
Of coming rest;
And oft that sweetest one I say,
In whispers o’er,
“And God shall wipe all tears away,”
Forevermore.

Refrain:
O sweet and precious promises,
To us who roam,
No sorrow there, no death, no pain,
In God’s sweet home.

2 And when I think of those I miss,
And mourn my loss,
Forgetting that my Saviour bore
A heavier cross,
I think with sudden rapture then,
That death no more
Shall come to take our friends away,
On heav’ns fair shore. [Refrain]

3 And when my heart is weary grown
With grief and pain,
I think in heav’n I shall not know
Earth’s woes again;
For things of old shall pass away
Forevermore;
No tears in Heav’n, no death, no pain
On Eden’s shore. [Refrain]
