The strength of a ""Southern Harmony"" hymn tune (PROSPECT) and the passion of this 15th century Latin hymn text combine to create a most effective and moving Lenten or Holy Week anthem. An obbligato oboe part (or other C instrument) and newly composed music on the third stanza add variety and musical interest.
