1787 - 1851 Author of "Jesus, in sickness and in pain" in The Sabbath Hymn Book. Baptist ed. Gallaudet, Thomas Hopkins, LL.D., born in Philadelphia, Dec. 10, 1787, and graduated at Yale, 1805; was a tutor there from 1808-1810, and proceeded to Andover in 1811, remaining as a student till 1814. Having established an Institute for deaf mutes at Hartford, he visited Europe in its interest in 1814-15. From 1817 to 1830 he was the superintendent of that institution, and from 1838 to 1851 chaplain of the Insane Asylum, Hartford. He died 1851. He published sundry juvenile works. In 1845 he contributed to the Connecticut Congregational Psalms & Hymns, No. 409, "Jesus, in sickness and in pain" (Looking to Jesus in time of trial). It is in 5 stanzas of 4 lines. [Rev. F. M.
