Ernest E. Dugmore

1843 - 1925 Scripture: Isaiah 65:17 Author of "Almighty Father of All Things That Be" in Rejoice in the Lord Dugmore, Ernest Edward, M.A., son of William Dugmore, Q.C, was b. at Bayswater, 1843, and educated at Bruce Castle School and by private tutors, and Wadh. Coll., Oxford; B.A. 1867; M.A. 1869. Ordained in 1867, he held the curacy of St. Peter's, Vauxhall, 1867-72, when he became Vicar of Parkstone 1872, and Canon of Sarum and Preb. of Gillingham Major 1900. He published in 1884 Gospel Idylls and Other Sacred Verses; and in 1900 Hymns of Adoration for Church Use. Of his hymns the following were included in the 1904 edition of Hymns Ancient & Modern:-- 1. Almighty Father of all things that he. No. 29 of Hymns of Adoration, 1900, as "For the Opening of an Exhibition." Abbreviated and slightly altered in Hymns Ancient & Modern to adapt it as a "General" hymn. It was originally composed for and used at a small industrial Exhibition held in his Parish. 2. Father Unoriginate. "To the Eternal Father," No. 20 in Hymns of Adoration, &c, in 7 stanzas of 6 lines. Abbreviated and partly re-written in Hymns Ancient & Modern, 1904. 3. Christians, sing the Incarnation. No. 23 in Hymns of Adoration, &c., as a " Processional before the Eucharist," in 7 stanzas of 12 lines, and repeated in full, with slight alterations in Hymns Ancient & Modern, 1904. Originally published with music, separately, at Vauxhall, 1870 or thereabouts. 4. Father, Who hast gathered This dear child to rest. Given in Hymns of Adoration, &c, No. 26, in 11 stanzas of 4 lines, as "For a Child's Funeral," the first line being "Jesu, Who hath gathered," Abbreviated and slightly altered in Hymns Ancient & Modern, 1904. 1596 - 1662 Person Name: Henry Lawes, 1596-1662 Scripture: Isaiah 65:17-25 Composer of "LAWES'S PSALM 47" in Common Praise Born: January 5, 1596, Dinton, Wiltshire, England. Died: October 21, 1662, London, England. Buried: In the cloisters of Westminster Abbey, London, England. Lawes, tutor to the daughters of the Earl of Bridgewater, is best known as a composer. He became a Gentleman of the Chapel Royal in 1626, and a member of the "King’s Musick" in 1631. He wrote over 400 vocal pieces, as well as anthems and instrumental compositions. Constance Cherry

b. 1953 Person Name: Constance Cherry, 1953- Scripture: Isaiah 65:25 Author of "When Will People Cease Their Fighting?" in Worship and Rejoice Rev. Dr. Constance Cherry is an experienced professor, worship leader, musician, and pastor, having served in local church ministry and academic teaching positions for more than thirty years. While a young woman she received a life-time vocational call to serve Christ through serving his Church. For many years she served as a full-time minister of music in large churches where she directed multiple types of choral groups and instrumental ensembles, prepared worship services, and provided leadership for the many dimensions of the multi-faceted church music program. Her undergraduate degree in music (Huntington University) and her Master of Music degree (Bowling Green State University) prepared her well for the musical expertise required of such positions. A growing interest in formal worship studies drew her eventually to pursue doctoral studies at Northern Baptist Theological Seminary (Chicago area). There she studied with Robert E. Webber who was not only Constance’s professor but also the supervisor for her doctoral thesis, “Discovering Your Vision for Worship: Teaching Worship in an Interdenominational Seminary Setting.” (see www.tren.com). As a result, her vocational call to ministry expanded into teaching seminary full-time at Winebrenner Theological Seminary, Findlay, Ohio, and serving congregations as pastor. Constance is ordained in the United Methodist Church. Today Constance is Professor of Worship and Pastoral Ministry at Indiana Wesleyan University, Marion, Indiana where she directs the major in Christian Worship. Since 2000 she has served on the faculty of The Robert E. Webber Institute for Worship Studies located in Jacksonville, Florida, traveling twice yearly to teach in the doctoral program of IWS. In addition, she teaches worship at institutions of higher education in several countries, most recently in the Master’s program at the Evangelische Theologische Faculteit (Evangelical Theological Faculty) in Leuven, Belgium (2008 & 2010). Constance is frequently called upon to serve as conference speaker on matters related to worship and church music. She is a published composer (Lorenz, Hope Publishing Company, and Celebrations Unlimited) as well as the author of many hymn texts. She currently has hymns in seven major hymnals. In addition to her three published books, Constance’s other publications include articles in numerous magazines such as Worship Leader, The Hymn, Reformed Worship, Worship Arts, and Creator.
