Conspire His kingdom to oppose,
Crushed like the potter’s brittle store,
And scattered, to unite no more.
2 Sinners! awake: ye fools! be wise;
From sin’s delusive dreams arise;
Behold your Savior, seek His face,
And kiss the scepter of His grace.
3 O, lest ye perish from the way
That leads to realms of endless day;
Lest fierce the threatening storm descend,
And on your heads its fury spend.
4 If, yet but kindly in His breast,
His wrath the guilty soul arrest,
How blest are they who serve the Lord,

Sink with enormous ruin down!
Banished from Heav’n, and doomed to dwell
Deep in the fiery gloom of hell!
2 Ye heav’ns with all your hosts, rejoice:
Ye saints, in consort lend your voice;
Approach your Lord’s victorious seat,
And tread the foe beneath your feet.
3 But whence a conquest so divine
Gained by such feeble hands as mine?
Or whence can sinful mortals boast
O’er Satan and his rebel host?
4 ’Twas from Thy blood, Thou slaughtered lamb,
That all our palms and triumphs came;
The cross, thy spear inflicts the stroke,
By which the monster’s head is broke.
5 Thy faithful Word our hope maintains
Through all our combat and our pains;
The accents of Thy heav’nly breath
Thy soldiers bear through wounds and death.
6 Triumphant Lamb, in worlds unknown,
With transport round Thy radiant throne,
Thy happy legions, all complete,

Świat pogardza łaską Bożą,

w lubieżnościach się kochają;
za doczesnym zyskiem gonią,
a od skarbów wiecznych stronią.
5 Chryste, broń stadeczka swego
od skażenia czasu tego;
pomóż szczerze pokutować,
z prawej drogi nie zstępować.
6 W wierze utwierdź nas prawdziwej
i w miłości niewątpliwej,
daj nadzieję też wiecznego
życia w domu Ojca swego.
7 Pozbawieni błędów, z-ɵści,

1 Whence come those loud and mournful cries,
That speak a mind bereft of joy?
They come from him who yonder lies,
Where flames devour, but can’t destroy.
2 I wonder not that he should fill
The world with loud incessant cries;
He feels no joy, nor ever will;
His foe the worm that never dies.
3 "One drop of water! one!" he cries:
Unhappy wretch! what woe is thine?
While Justice with a frown replies,
"It cannot be—the prisoner’s mine!"
4 Beholding such a sight as this,
Let things eternal be my care
And never may my case be his,
Whom God abandons to despair.
5 I’ll keep in view the sinner’s friend,
Whose arms I see extended wide:
At sight of Him, my terrors end;
His merit all my guilt will hide.
