Call Jehovah thy salvation

Author: James Montgomery Meter: 8.7.8.7 D Appears in 214 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 91 Lyrics: Call Jehovah thy salvation, Rest beneath the Almighty's shade, In his secret habitation Dwell, and never be dismay'd: There no tumult shall alarm thee, Thou shalt dread no hidden snare, Guile nor violence can harm thee In eternal safeguard there. From the sword at noon-day wasting, From the noisome pestilence, In the depth of midnight blasting, God shall be thy sure defence; Fear not thou the deadly quiver, When a thousand feel the blow, Mercy shall thy soul deliver, Though ten thousand be laid low. Only with thine eyes the anguish Of the wicked thou shalt see, When by slow disease they languish, When they perish suddenly: 149 Thee, though winds and waves be swelling, God, thine hope, shall bear through all; Plague shall not come nigh thy dwelling, Thee no evil shall befall. He shall charge his angel legions, Watch and ward o'er thee to keep; Though thou walk through hostile regions, Though in desert wilds thou sleep: On the lion vainly roaring, On his young, thy foot shall tread, And, the dragon's den exploring, Thou shalt bruise the Serpent's head. Since, with pure and firm affection, Thou on God hast set thy love, With the wings of His protection He will shield thee from above: Thou shalt call on Him in trouble, He will hearken, He will save, Here for grief reward thee double, Crown with life beyond the grave. Topics: God guards his people; Omnipotence of God

No ill shall enter where you dwell; Or if the plague come nigh, And sweep the wicked down to hell, 'Twill raise his saints on high. He'll give his angels charge to keep Your feet in all their ways; To watch your pillow while you sleep, And guard your happy days. Their hands shall bear you, lest you fall And dash against the stones: Are they not servants at his call, And sent t' attend his sons? Adders and lions ye shall tread; The tempter's wiles defeat; He that hath broke the serpent's head Puts him beneath your feet. "Because on me they set their love, I'll save them," saith the Lord; "I'll bear their joyful souls above Destruction and the sword. "My grace shall answer when they call, In trouble I'll be nigh; My power shall help them when they fall, And raise them when they die. Meter: 8.8.8.8 Appears in 37 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 91:1-14 Lyrics: 1 The man who once has found abode, within the secret place of God shall with Almighty God abide, and in his shadow safely hide. 2 I therefore of the Lord will say, he is my refuge and my stay; my citadel of strength is he — My God in whom my trust shall be. 3 For he shall with his watchful care preserve thee from the fowler's snare; yea, he shall be thy sure defense against the deadly pestilence. 4 His outspread pinions shall thee hide, beneath his wings shalt thou confide. His faithfulness shall ever be a shield and buckler unto thee. 5 No nightly terrors shall alarm, no deadly shaft by day shall harm; nor pestilence that walks by night, nor plagues that waste in noonday light. 6 Because his angels he commands to bear thee safely in their hands, to guard thy ways, lest left alone, thou dash thy foot against a stone. 7 "Because he set his love on Me, from danger I will set him free.
