Simei Monteiro

b. 1943 Author of "Canção da caminhada (If walking is our vocation)" in Global Praise 1 (Rev. ed.) Simei Monteiro is a Brazilian poet, composer, translator, author and editor. She was Born in Belém, PA, Brazil in 1943. Her songs and translations appear in several hymn books and collections of sacred songs in Brazil, Latin America, USA, Europe, and Asia. She has a degree in Portuguese, French Language and Literature, and a Degree in Artistic Education. She is interested in worship and the arts, and her book: The Song of Life, explores the relationship between Hymnody and Theology. Until 2010, she was a missionary of The United Methodist Church, serving with the World Council of Churches (WCC), in Geneva, Switzerland, in the position of Worship Consultant. Simei is married to a Methodist pastor and has two adult daughters, two granddaughters, and a grandson. Simei Monteiro

Richard Massie

1800 - 1887 Person Name: R. Massie, 1800-87 Translator of "We Are Called by One Vocation" in Evangelical Lutheran Hymnary Massie, Richard, eldest son of the Rev. R. Massie, of Goddington, Cheshire, and Rector of Eccleston, was born at Chester, June 18, 1800, and resides at Pulford Hall, Coddington. Mr. Massie published a translation of Martin Luther’s Spiritual Songs, London, 1854. His Lyra Domestica, 1st series, London, 1860, contains translations of the 1st Series of Spitta's Psalter und Harfe. In 1864 he published vol. ii., containing translations of Spitta's 2nd Series, together with an Appendix of translations of German hymns by various authors. He also contributed many translations of German hymns to Mercer's Church Psalter & Hymn Book; to Reid's British Herald; to the Day of Rest, &c. 1926 - 2004 Person Name: Daniel B Merrick Author of "Called to God's Vocation" in Scripture Song Database Merrick Daniel B. (Bloomington, Illinois, April 29, 1926--November 11, 2004). Married Dagmar Gustafson in 1952 while a student at Phillips Theological Seminary (A.B., 1948; B.D., 1954); three children. Served churches in Sandoval, Ill.; Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Panama Canal Zone; Peoria, Illinois; and Havana, Ill. Won his first hymn writing contest in the mid-1950s. The hymn "O God whose Love Compels Us" was a winning entry for a theme hymn for the American Baptist convention in 1967. Edited the Chalice Hymnal for the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). --DNAH Archives
