Circumcision no figure of Water Baptism

Hymnal: HVSP1792 #12 (1792) First Line: Abraham's seed was circumcised Lyrics: 1 Abraham's seed was circumcised, When they wer but eight days old, Ours they say may be baptised, This they think will surely hold. 2 Is there any outward figure Points to outward signs again? This the sign of circumcision, Points us to the inner man. 3 If our hearts are circumcised, We may wear the outward sign, Believing we may be baptised, This I think to be the time. 4 I know the word is full of meaning, Likely here is something shown, Young children may receive the sealing, Baptising then is straightway done. 5 Baptising those that's young believers, Is a thing in scripture shown, To the friends of old Cornelius, Peter doth command it done. 6 As soon as we can find they're children, Of the promise made to Christ, We give them the outward sealing, Without a dissenting voice. 7 But to make ourselves like Abra'm, Makes us greater than we be, Our nat'ral seed is more like Sodom, Or like the wild Olive Tree. 8 Be believing we are grafted Into the true Olive Tree, Seal no blanks your wax is wasted, Or at least it's so to me. While I was musing the fire burned

Hymnal: HVSP1792 #17 (1792) First Line: Alas my soul, Oh why so sluggish Lyrics: 1 Alas my soul, Oh why so sluggish, Since thy God has been so kind, As to redeem the from the rubbish, Why art hou again consum'd? 2 O arise shake off thy fetters, Sin hath slyly got them on; O why art thou become a debtor, Since Christ so much has undergone. 3 Why should the children of a palace Thus go mourning all the day, Exposed to the Devil's malice, Holy spirit help me pray. 4 O for wisdom, grace and power, To arise by faith on wings, Into possession of such hours As when Jesus took my sins. 5 Then methinks I lean'd upon him, lov'd him as his Children do; For if I was one hour from him, My soul my Jesus would pursue. 6 Then I lov'd to set like Mary, Wash his blessed feet with tears; I though like Abraham and Sarah, I'd walk with him my coming years. 7 But Oh alas! my resolutions Tho' they as strong as bulwarks stood, They're gone and left me in confusion, Help me Jesus, help me God. 8 O give me such humble trusting, In the merits of thy blood, That will save my soul from thirsting, After vain and earthly good. 9 And let my Jesus be my portion, Through time and thro' eternity; His love is such a boundless Ocean, It sets my guilty conscience free. 10 I feel no pain, I feel no sorrow, When upon his breast I lean; My sould feels neither fear nor horrow, When my Jesus face is seen. 11 What can sinners do without him, Justice strikes them thro' and trho' I will twine my arms about him, Give myself to him anew. On Baptism

Hymnal: HVSP1792 #10 (1792) First Line: Before the world I now will own Lyrics: 1 Before the world I now will own, My blessed Lord and king, Go down the banks as he hath done, And be baptis'd like him. 2 I from the water wish to rise, And look to him above; Receive a blessing from the skies, The blessing of his love. 3 Then we will join our notes to sing, The wonders he hath done; Jesus our sov'reign Lord and king, Was once baptis'd by John. 4 And if we will believe hs word, And be baptis'd like him, The blood of our ascended Lord, Will save our souls from sin. 5 Hosanna to his blessed name, Come spread the echo round, To endless years he is the same, With joy repeat the sound. 6 We wish to join the blessed throng That sings around the throne, Begin the new and living song, Grace, grace and grace alone. Leaving all for Christ

Hymnal: HVSP1792 #5 (1792) First Line: Behold this Sodom here below Lyrics: 1 Behold this Sodom here below, I leave it all to you, Hinder me not for I must go, My Jesus to pursue. 2 My worldly cares will prove my wos, I bid them all adieu; Hinder me not for I must go, My Jesus to pursue. 3 The word of God hath brought me low, Being conscious it is true; Hinder me not for I must go, My Jesus to pursue. 4 Not all my pray'rs nor tears that flow, Can form my soul anew; Hinder me not for I must go, My Jesus to pursue. 5 I hear the terms are very low, But money will not do; Hinder me not for I must go, My Jesus to pursue. 6 In all my righteousness I know, There's nothing that is true; Hinder me not for I must go, My Jesus to pursue. 7 Like Abraham's servant I must know, And like him would prove true; Hinder me not for I must go, My Jesus to pursue. The rise of a Church

Hymnal: HVSP1792 #26 (1792) First Line: Brethren and Sisters we stand in Church relation Lyrics: 1 Brethren and Sisters we stand in Church relation, We have inlisted under the King of heaven, Taken our bounty, taken our bounty, And thereby are holden to march the road to Heaven. 2 Well if we are soldiers let us wear the armour, Or else we have no comfort neither can be useful To our Captain, to our Captain, Nor promote his banner among the friends of Satan. 3 Who is our Captain that we should e'er abuse him? His name is King Jesus, his stores are sufficient, Evening and morning, evening and morning, We may draw our rations to strengthen us to Battle. 4 Besides all dear soldiers think upon our vestment, We have robe that's seamless, that ever will grow brighter, The more that we wear it, the more that we wear it, The brighter it will shine, O blessed be this vestment.
