The Master's Touch

Author: Horatius Bonar, 1808-1889 Meter: 10.10 D Appears in 13 hymnals First Line: In the still air the music lies unheard Lyrics: 1. In the still air the music lies unheard; In the rough marble beauty hides unseen. To make the music and the beauty needs The Master’s touch, the Sculptor’s chisel keen. 2. Great Master, touch us with Thy skillful hands; Let not the music that is in us die; Great Sculptor, hew and polish us, nor let Hidden and lost, Thy form within us lie. 3. Spare not the stroke; do with us what Thou wilt; Let there be naught unfinished, broken, marred; Complete Thy purpose that we may become Thy perfect image—Thou our God and Lord. Used With Tune: CONISBOROUGH

Stars of the Morning

Author: Joseph the Hymnographer; John M. Neale Meter: 10.10 D Appears in 69 hymnals First Line: Stars of the morning, so gloriously bright Lyrics: 1. Stars of the morning, so gloriously bright, Filled with celestial splendor and light, These that, where night never followeth day, Raise the Thrice Holy song ever and aye. 2. These are Thy ministers, these dost Thou own, God of Sabaoth, the nearest Thy throne; These are Thy messengers, These dost Thou send, Help of the helpless ones! man to defend. 3. Who like the Lord? thunders Michael the chief; Raphael, the cure of God, comforteth grief; And, as at Nazareth, prophet of peace, Gabriel, the light of God, bringeth release. 4. Then, when the earth was first poised in mid space, Then, when the planets first sped on their race, Then, when were ended the six days’ employ, Then all the sons of God shouted for joy. 5. Still let them succor us; still let them fight, Lord of angelic hosts, battling for right; Till, where their anthems they ceaselessly pour, We with the angels may bow and adore. Used With Tune: TRISAGION Text Sources: Translation in Hymns of the Eastern Church, 1862, alt.

Blissard, 1835-1904 Hymnal: CYBER #8772 Meter: 10.10 D First Line: "Others He saved, Himself He could not save" Lyrics: 1 "Others He saved, Himself He could not save," So scoffed the priests, and upward rolled the wave Of blasphemy against the dying Lord, Until it broke upon the throne of God. 2 "Others He saved, Himself He did not save," So sighed the mourners round the Savior’s grave; Their grief embittered by the mystery Why He, who Lazarus raised, Himself need die. 3 "Others He saved, Himself He would not save," There rests the truth, His life for us He gave: O ruined heart! thy Savior had to choose, If He should die, or thou salvation lose.
