There's a Work for Each of Us

Author: A. A. A. Appears in 11 hymnals Person Name: A. A. A. First Line: Our master has taken His journey Refrain First Line: There's a work for me and a work for you Lyrics: 1. Our master has taken His journey To a country that’s far away, And has left us the care of the vineyard, To work for Him day by day. Refrain There’s a work for me and a work for you, Something for each of us now to do, Yes, a work for me and a work for you, Something for each of us now to do. 2. In this little while, doth it matter, As we work, and we watch, and we wait; If we’re filling the place He assigns us, Be its service small or great. [Refrain] 3. There’s only one thing should concern us, To find just the task that is ours; And then, having found it, to do it With all of our God-giv’n pow’rs. [Refrain] 4. Our master is coming most surely, To reckon with every one; Shall we then count our toil or our sorrow, If His sentence be, Well done? [Refrain] Used With Tune: [Our master has taken His journey]

First Line: The light of His coming is flashing afar Refrain First Line: Rejoice, O ye faithful, the circling of years Lyrics: 1 The light of His coming is flashing afar, The rising and glory of Bethlehem’s star, The heavens receive Him no longer from sight, Descending, encompassed with seraphim bright. Refrain: Rejoice, O ye faithful, the circling of years Has hastened His coming to dry up your tears; The sweet fields of Eden again are restored— The kingdoms of earth now belong to your Lord. 2 He comes, the Messiah, to harvest the earth, The gems of His crown are bright jewels of worth; The mantle of death is now folded away, The faithful of ages are born in a day. [Refrain] 3 Behold the despisèd, the crucified One, Once led to the cross, now ascending the throne; The kings of the earth cast their crowns at His feet, The hosts of the heavens His praises repeat. [Refrain] Used With Tune: VINNYTSIA Text Sources: Hymns of the Second Coming of Our Lord Jesus Christ by Bailie Brown and Peter P. Bilhorn (Chicago: Bilhorn Brothers, 1911)

Glory To God! We Were In Bitter Need

Author: A. M. M. Meter: 10.10.10.10.10.10 Appears in 1 hymnal Person Name: A. M. M. Lyrics: 1 Glory to God! We were in bitter need, We sat in darkness long and weary days; But now our light is come, the Light indeed, And we may rise and shine with kindred rays; The God-Man comes down so we can now ascend, The Guiltless drinks guilt’s woes to work their end. 2 O mystic gift of God Omnipotent! O happiness for man, most deep, most dear! This is no theme for subtle argument, No lore of earth hath lot or portion here; That the Great God should so abasèd be— We speak, we cannot search, the mystery. 3 The dew of God is on the parchèd fleece, The sapless rod blooms with immortal flowers, The virgin bears a Son, our utter peace, Nor knows pollution in her travail’s hours; We cannot speak that birth, but we confess Most great the mystery of godliness. 4 Though it may chance the shipmen toil and row, With countless wrecks far strewn on either hand, They see a star above the waters glow, There is an ark which sights the pleasant land; There is a door of life set wide, which none Can open to lorn souls, can shut, save One. 5 O not with observation came He then Into our world, but soon the day shall be When with great glory He shall come again With all His saints, and every eye shall see Him whom they piercèd. When we meet Thee thus Let there be mercy, O our God, on us. Used With Tune: YORKSHIRE Text Sources: Missal of Noyon; Tr.: Lyra Messianica by Orby Shipley (London: Longman, Green, Longman, roberts & Green, 1864)
