47. "The Legions of the Cross"

1 Hark, the tread of countless footsteps,
Marching on to Zion's gate,
To the fair and shining city,
Where the watching Angels wait,
Wait to wreath their brows with garlands;
Wait to lead them to the throne,
Where the thousand hosts of Heaven
Bow before the Mighty One.

2 See the legions marching onward,
See the conquering palms they wave,
Onward, upward passing ever,
To the land beyond the grave.
See the smiles of happy greeting,
See the light that fills their eyes,
Hear their words of cheer and comfort,
Hear their heartfelt anthems rise.

3 Thousand voices join the chorus,
In a music sweet and strong,
Theme of which I never weary,
This the burden of their song;
"Unto him who so hath loved us,
Suffered death and rose again,
Be the Kingdom and the glory,
Now and ever more. Amen."
