18. New Hold on the Promises

1 I am weak, O Lord, and I never can depend
On the purposes my lips confess;
But thy pow’r shall reinforce,
And will help me in my course,
More than words can e’er express.

Refrain:
Let me take new hold,
Let me take new hold,
On thy promises that must endure;
Let me take new hold
As I never have before,
On thy promises, so good, so sure.

2 Let my faith take hold with a stronger, truer grasp
On the promises thy love hath told;
Even mountains shall be moves,
That thy faithfulness be proved,
And the world thy truth behold. [Refrain]

3 Let me trust thy word, as did prophets long ago,
Let no doubting e’er my faith assail;
I would take a newer hold
On thy promises of old,
That shall never, never fail. [Refrain]
