140. The Salvation Line

1 I’m a salvation trav’ler,
And I run for a prize,
By the way of redemption,
For my home in the skies;
At Mount Calvary Junction
I chang’d just in time
From the broad gauge to ruin
For this Salvation Line.

Chorus:
How I welcome the light,
As the way grows more bright!
I am happy in Jesus,
And my signal’s all right.

2 When we’re passing through tunnels
Or the darkness of night,
If we’re trusting in Jesus
There’s a bright shining light;
He’s our blessed Conductor,
He will help you on board;
To the end of the journey
He will comfort afford. [Chorus]

3 ‘Tis a straight route to glory,
Not a curve on this line;
At each depot of duty
We are always on time;
Special favors not granted,
The full fare all must pay;
Not a side-track is needed,
All the trains run one way. [Chorus]

4 ‘Tis an upgrade to heaven;
Not a brakeman on board,
When at full speed, no danger,
If we trust in the Lord.
Hark! the whistle is sounding,
‘Tis a jubilant blast,
And so quickly thro’ conflicts
And earth’s trials we pass. [Chorus]

5 And at last when we finish
All our journey below,
From the vale of death’s shadow
Thro’ the pearly gates go,
What an anthem of welcome
From the harpers will roll
As we land all triumphant
On the pavements of gold! [Chorus]
