Responsorial setting to reading of Psalm 20. Tone included for chanting. The first refrain allows for a prayer for God’s blessing or a blessing on an individual or on one another
in the Lord’s name. The latter would be particularly appropriate at a service of baptism, ordination, or any
time when members of congregation profess their faith publicly. The traditional Byzantine chant tone allows
for both the refrain and the psalm to be sung in harmony. The alternate refrain is an Afro-American Spiritual
that invites the entire congregation to profess with the psalmist their trust in the Lord. Additional stanzas
may be improvised. (I will stay on bended knee . . . till I die; I will stay on the battlefield . . . till I die; I will treat everybody right .
. . till I die; Sister/Brother/People, will you trust in the Lord . . . till you die?) |
