Text: | Why We Are Glad |
Author: | Minnie A. Greiner |
Tune: | [The bells in the steeple are chiming today] |
Composer: | Howard E. Smith |
1 The bells in the steeple are chiming today,
So cheerily, merrily, blithely and gay;
Now what is the message they’re trying to say,
As backward and forward their iron tongues sway?
Refrain:
God is good, his mercy and his grace,
Bounteous, lavish and free are found in ev’ry place;
God is good, his love we all may trace;
Wonderful message, our God is good!
2 The sunshine lies brightly on garden and wold,
And flickers thro’ green leaves of forest tress old;
Now what is the message its warm rays unfold,
While tipping the steeple and tree tops with gold? [Refrain]
3 The flowers are ev’rywhere smiling, I see,
And nodding their heads in the greatest of glee;
Now what can the cause of their happiness be,
As brightly they gleam over meadow and lea? [Refrain]
