118. Standing by the cross

1 Do you see that little band, when the Savior died,
Surrounded by His foes? they were standing by His side.
Love for Him had brought them there,
Counting all things else but loss;
So faithful to the last,
They were standing by the cross.

Chorus:
Then rally round the cross, all ye lovers of the Lord;
Be ready for the strife, at the bidding of His word;
Let the world with all its charms be counted only dross;
Ready then to do or die, standing by the cross.

2 There's a cross for thee to bear, 'till the Master's call;
Be faithful to thy trust 'till the evening shadows fall.
Whether friends or foes are there,
We should never count the cost;
But be faithful to the last,
Always standing by the cross. [Chorus]

3 There's a crown for thee to wear when the warfare's o'er;
It is waiting for us all on that happy golden shore.
But the cross before the crown,
Let us treasure not the dross;
But be faithful to the last,
Always standing by the cross. [Chorus]
