9. Go Spread the Tidings

1 To you and to me comes the Lord’s command:
“Go carry the gospel to every land;
Not only to nations across the sea,
But stranger or friend that is nearest thee.”

Refrain:
Go spread the tidings, the doors swing wide;
The cry, “Come and help us,” sounds on every side;
The nearest city, the farthest land,
Shall yet find joy thro’ the Lord’s command.

2 To those who are wand’ring in sin’s dark night,
The tidings will come like the morning light;
All doubt and despair will be swept away
When Christ o’er the world holds unbroken sway. [Refrain]

3 The tumult and terror of war shall cease,
The bond-man of toil find a swift release;
No hand shall destroy, and no pow’r oppress,
When life’s highest aim is to save and bless. [Refrain]

4 Then wake to the duty that calls today,
To watch or to wrestle, to go or stay;
When each one can say, “Her am I, send me,”
God’s kingdom shall rule over land and sea. [Refrain]
