176. The Call for Reapers

1 Ripened grain is standing,
In the harvest field,
And the valleys waving,
What will be the yield?
Ev’ry hill is crowned
With a crown of gold;
Wondrous are the riches
These shall yet unfold.

Refrain:
Plenteous is the harvest,
But the lab’rers few,
Thus the Master calleth,
He hath work for you;
Plenteous is the harvest,
But the lab’rers few,
Thus the Master calleth,
He hath work for you.

2 Ripened grain is standing,
Ready for the hand
Of the willing workers,
Our of ev’ry land.
Why is this delaying?
Must the grain be lost?
Is it worth the gath’ring?
Count the pain it cost. [Refrain]

3 When the Lord of harvest
Asks “what hast thou done?”
Canst then say “I idled,
Labor I had none?”
Nay, thou canst not answer
For an idle day;
Go thou to the harvest,
Labor while you may. [Refrain]
