50. For Mother’s Sake

1 When I’m tempted to wander in sin far away,
Then sweet mem’ries hold me within the right way;
And something just whispers “Be steady there, you,”
To your mother’s teachings be faithful and true.

Refrain:
For mother’s sake I must be true,
For mother’s sake I’ll dare and do;
And follow Christ today—will you?
For dear old mothers’ sake.

2 When the battle grows harder and I dread the fight,
When wrong seems to triumph and conquer the rights;
Then faintly but firmly I hear her clear call,
While God watches over, I never shall fall. [Refrain]

3 When the call of my Saviour sounds clearer to me,
That tells how He suffered and died on the tree;
To win o’er temptation I surely will try,
For Christ and my mother I’ll conquer or die. [Refrain]

4 When I think of my mother in the old rocking chair,
As when for her blessings I knelt there in pray’r;
I laugh at all struggles and storm tossing sea,
And my mother mem’ry brings vict’ry for me. [Refrain]
