147. Glorious Country

1 Glorious country, we love thee, we hail thee;
Land where our fathers with purpose sublime
Laid the foundation, which never shall fail thee,
Firm as the rock and abiding as time.

Refrain:
Sing of our country; O sing of it ever!
Join in the chorus exultant and free:
“Union and liberty, now and forever!”
This shall the song of America be.

2 Glorious people; the blood of the nations
Mingles and makes of us brothers and friends,
Binds us together in closest relations,
Quickens the song which triumphant ascends. [Refrain]

3 Glorious banner, an emblem right royal,
Snatched from the depths of the starry blue sky;
Stained with the blood of our patriots loyal;
Thee did they follow to conquer or die. [Refrain]

4 Let us be loyal, O people most glorious!
True to our colors wherever unfurled;
Freedom our watchword, our country victorious;
Light of the nations, the hope of the world. [Refrain]
