Vär store Gud gör stora under

Topics: Kyrkan och Missionen; Church and Mission; Verksamhet Languages: Swedish Tune Title: [Vär store Gud gör stora under]

Oh would, my God, that I could praise Thee

Author: J. Mentzer Hymnal: Chorale Book for England, The #5 (1863) Meter: 9.8.9.8.8.8 Lyrics: Oh would, my God, that I could praise Thee With thousand tongues, by day and night! How many a song my lips should raise Thee, Who order'st all things here aright. My thankful heart would ever be Telling what God hath done for me. O all ye powers that He implanted, Arise, keep silence thus no more, Put forth the strength that He hath granted, Your noblest work is to adore; O soul and body, make ye meet With heartfelt praise your Lord to greet. Ye forest leaves so green and tender, That dance for joy in summer air; Ye meadow grasses bright and slender, Ye flowers, so wondrous sweet and fair; Ye live to show His praise alone, Help me to make His glory known. O all things that have breath and motion, That throng with life earth, sea, and sky, Now join me in my heart's devotion, Help me to raise His praises high, My utmost powers can ne'er aright Declare the wonders of His might. But I will tell, while I am living, His goodness forth with every breath, And greet each morning with thanksgiving, Until my heart is still in death, Nay, when at last my lips grow cold, His praise shall in my sighs be told. O Father, deign Thou, I beseech Thee, To listen to my earthly lays; A nobler strain in heaven shall reach Thee, When I with angels hymn Thy praise, And learn amid their choirs to sing Loud hallelujahs to my King. I praise Thee, O my God and Father

Author: Mentzer Hymnal: Chorale Book for England, The #6 (1863) Meter: 9.8.9.8.8.8 Lyrics: I praise Thee, O my God and Father, For all I am and all I have, The blessings that we daily gather, Ev'n from our cradle to our grave; For Thy rich grace hath scatter'd here Whate'er we need to help and cheer. I praise Thee, Saviour, whose compassion Hath brought Thee down to succour me; Thy pitying heart sought my salvation, Though keenest woes were heaped on Thee, Wrought me from bondage full release, Made me Thine own, and gave me peace. Thee too I praise, O Holy Spirit, By whose deep teachings I am made A heavenly kingdom to inherit, Who art my Comforter, my aid; Whate'er of good by me is done Is of Thy grace and light alone. And as my life is onward gliding, With each fresh scene anew I mark How Thou art holding me and guiding, Where all seems troubled, strange, and dark; When cares oppress and hopes depart, Thy light hath never failed my heart. Shall I not then be filled with gladness, Shall I not praise Thee evermore? And triumph o'er all fears and sadness, E'en when my cup of woe runs o'er? Though heaven and earth may pass away, I know Thy word stands fast for aye. Scripture: Luke 1:26-47 Languages: English

Abide with Us, the Day Is Waning

Author: Oluf H. Smeby; Caspar Boye Hymnal: The Cyber Hymnal #7 Meter: 9.8.9.8.8.8 Lyrics: 1. Abide with us, the day is waning, Thus prayed the two while on the way; We read that Thou, O Lord, remaining, Didst all their doubts and fears allay. Incline Thine ear, Thou King of Grace, When, praying thus, we seek Thy face. 2. At eventide, Thy Spirit sending, Help us, O Lord, our watch to keep, In prayer devout before Thee bending, Ere we our eyelids close in sleep, Confessing sin in deed and word With hope of mercy from the Lord. 3. Abide with us; with heav’nly gladness Illumine, Lord, our darkest day; And when we weep in pain and sadness, Be Thou our Solace, Strength and Stay. Tell of Thy woe, Thy victory won, When Thou didst pray: Thy will be done. 4. Abide with us, O Savior tender, That bitter day when life shall end, When to the grave we must surrender, And fear and pain our hearts shall rend. The shield of faith do Thou bestow When trembling we must meet the foe. 5. When earthly help no more availeth, To sup with us Thou wilt be nigh; Thou givest strength that never faileth, In Thee we grave and death defy. While earth is fading from our sight, Our eyes behold the realms of light. Languages: English Tune Title: NEUMARK

Oh, That I Had A Thousand Voices

Author: J. Mentzer; Grundtvig Hymnal: Hymnal for Church and Home #14 (1927) Meter: 9.8.9.8.8.8 Lyrics: 1 Oh, that I had a thousand voices, They should be raised to Christ, my Lord! My hungry soul in Him rejoices With saints above in sweet accord. Oh, that I might extol His name And to the world His grace proclaim! 2 Let storms but rage, the forest felling, Let gloomy pines their sighings raise, But come with me, your voices swelling, Break forth, break forth in songs of praise! Ye flowers all your splendor lend, To praise the Lord your efforts bend. 3 Step forward ye that life were given, All creatures with a God-made voice, And join with me, in thanks to heaven. Rejoice with me, rejoice, rejoice! Let all exalt His grace in song; He guardeth you with ramparts strong. 4 Depart vain world, with grief and sadness, Thou shalt no more my heart depress; My Savior fills my soul with gladness; He comforts me in all distress. Be praise and honor unto Thee, O Lord, throughout eternity! 5 My soul exalts Thy lovingkindess Until my final hour is come; Were I made speechless, struck with blindness, And even losing hearth and home, I should not cease to pray and sigh And lift my thoughts to Thee on high. 6 The feeble thanks that I can render, Thou slightest not, O dearest Lord! Some day at home in heaven's splendor, With angels' choir in sweet accord, My grateful thanks to Thee I raise, While thousand voices sing Thy praise.
