1 Give Gud, paa hvem vi stole,
Synden drukne maa og dø,
Og den kristne Planteskole
Sprede vidt og bredt sit Frø!
Aanden vække mild og god
Hver en Sjæl til Bøn og Bod,
Nyt paa Jorden vorde Livet,
Gud i Evighed hengivet!

2 Give Gud, paa hvem vi haabe,
Alle bange Sjæle Fred,
Gyde Himlens Balsam-Draabe
Sødt i kjuste Hjerter ned!
Slukke Gud i Jesu Navn
Alle tunge Hjerte-Savn
Ved sin Aand, og salig styrke
Troes-Livet i vor Kirke!

3 Naadens Straaler venlig lue
Over Land og over Stad,
Kom, min Sjæl, fra Gud at skue
Bud med Fredens Olje-Blad!
Saa gaa vi med Glæde ud,
Bygge Alter, takke Gud;
Pagtens Bue staar derover,
Gud sin Miskundhed os lover!

He took a theological degree (cand. theol) in 1827, and worked after that as the resident chaplain in Gausdal for six years.
