Person Name: Anon. Author of "Hark! the Lark is Singing" in Melodies for Little People In some hymnals, the editors noted that a hymn's author is unknown to them, and so this artificial "person" entry is used to reflect that fact. Obviously, the hymns attributed to "Author Unknown" "Unknown" or "Anonymous" could have been written by many people over a span of many centuries.

1835 - 1910 Composer of "[Hark! the lark is singing]" in Melodies for Little People Born: 1835, Greenville, New York. Died: June 5, 1910, New York City. Son of Cyrus Earle and Amanda Hedden Ford, Stephen wrote several battle hymns during the American civil war which were sung by Union soldiers. He was a partner in a shirt and collar making company, Ide & Ford, in Troy, New York (1865-72). In his later years, he was known as an author, editor, composer and critic. He was living in Schenectady, New York, in 1908. 1817 - 1885 Person Name: Thos. Crampton Composer of "[Hark! the lark is singing]" in Little Pilgrim Songs Thomas Crampton, English composer, organist and music editor. Made purchaser of music to the British Museum in 1875, and was also sometime editor of 'Pitman's Musical Monthly' (Source: British Musical Biography, 1897).
