Mine Eyes Have Seen the Glory

Author: Julia Ward Howe Hymnal: Lutherförbundets SÄngbok #E180 (1913) First Line: Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord Refrain First Line: glory! glory, hallelujah! Lyrics: 1 Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord; He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored; He hath loosed the fateful lightning of His terrible swift sword; His truth is marching on. Chorus: Glory! glory, hallelujah! Glory! glory, hallelujah! Glory! glory, hallelujah! His truth is marching on. 2 I have seen Him in the watch-fires of a hundred circling camps; They have builded Him an altar in the evening dews and damps; I can read His righteous sentence by the dim and glaring lamps; His day is marching on. [Chorus] 3 He has sounded forth the trumpet that shall never call retreat; He is sifting out the hearts of men before His judgment seat; Oh, be swift, my soul, to answer Him! be jubilant, my feet; Our God is marching on. [Chorus] 4 In the beauty of the lilies, Christ was born across the sea, With a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me; As He died to make men holy, let us die to make men free; While God is marching on. [Chorus] Topics: Patriotic Languages: English Tune Title: BATTLE HYMN OF THE REPUBLIC

Ann E. Beatty

1857 - 1956 Author (refrain) of "Battle Hymn of the Republic" in TTT-Himnaro Cigneta Ann E. Beatty (July 15, 1857 - November 19, 1956) was an Esperantist from Cardington, Ohio, who, in the early 1920s compiled and published, probably in 1924, the first and to date the largest Esperanto-language hymnal published in North America, Espero Internacia. It was "translated for Christian Home Orphanage, Council Bluffs, Iowa" though it is unclear whether the Orphanage, which is still in existence as Children's Square, solicited or even knew in advance of the project, just as it is unclear whether the texts in Espero Internacia are wholly the product of Miss Beatty's work in translating. Some of the contents (texts and/or tunes) are explicitly credited to her, but most are uncredited.
