Louisa May Alcott

1832 - 1888 Person Name: Louisa M. Alcott Author of "Oh, the Beautiful Old Story" in The Carol Alcott, Louisa May, b. Nov. 29, 1833, d. at Concord, March 5, 1888. She published Little Men, Little Women, &c, and also wrote a few hymns for children. --John Julian, Dictionary of Hymnology, Appendix, Part II (1907) ======================= Alcott, Louisa M., p. 1550, i. Mrs. Eva Munson Smith, in her Woman in Sacred Song, 1885, p. 668, gives Miss Alcott's hymn, "A little kingdom I possess," and prints a note thereon from Miss Alcott, dated “Concord, Oct. 7, 1883," in which Miss Alcott says that this hymn is “the only hymn I ever wrote. It was composed at thirteen, and . . . still expresses my soul's desire." The hymn is in the Baptist School Hymnal, 1880, and others. --John Julian, Dictionary of Hymnology, New Supplement (1907)
