Jerusalem the Golden

Author: Bernard of Cluny; John M. Neale, 1818-1866 Hymnal: Lutheran Book of Worship #347 (1978) Meter: 7.6.7.6.7.6.7.6 First Line: Jerusalem, the golden Lyrics: 1 Jerusalem the golden, With milk and honey blest, Beneath your contemplation Sink heart and voice oppressed. I know not, oh, I know not, What social joys are there, What radiancy of glory, What bliss beyond compare. 2 They stand, those halls of Zion, Conjubilant with song And bright with many an angel And all the martyr throng. The prince is ever in them; The daylight is serene; The pastures of the blessed Are decked in glorious sheen. 3 There is the throne of David, And there, from care released, The shout of those who triumph, The song of those who feast. And they, who with their leader Have conquered in the fight, Forever and forever Are clad in robes of white. 4 Oh, sweet and blessed country, The home of God's elect! Oh, sweet and blessed country, That eager hearts expect! In mercy, Jesus, bring us To that dear land of rest! You are, with God the Father And Spirit, ever blest. We All Are One in Mission

Author: Rusty Edwards Hymnal: Celebrating Grace Hymnal #269 (2010) Meter: 7.6.7.6 D Lyrics: 1 We all are one in mission, we all are one in call, our varied gifts united by Christ, the Lord of all. A single great commission compels us from above to plan and work together that all may know Christ's love. 2 We all are called for service to witness in God's name. Our ministries are different, our purpose is the same: to touch the lives of others by God's surprising grace so every land and nation may feel God's warm embrace. 3 We all behold one vision, a stark reality: the steward of salvation was nailed upon a tree. Yet resurrected Justice gives rise that we may share free reconciliation and hope amid despair. 4 Now let us be united and let our song be heard. Now let us be a vessel for God's redeeming word. We all are one in mission, we all are one in call, our varied gifts united by Christ, the Lord of all. William Walker

1809 - 1875 Composer of "COMPLAINER" in The Southern Harmony, and Musical Companion (New ed. thoroughly rev. and much enl.)

Fred Pratt Green

1903 - 2000 Author of "When Jesus Came to Jordan" in The United Methodist Hymnal The name of the Rev. F. Pratt Green is one of the best-known of the contemporary school of hymnwriters in the British Isles. His name and writings appear in practically every new hymnal and "hymn supplement" wherever English is spoken and sung. And now they are appearing in American hymnals, poetry magazines, and anthologies. Mr. Green was born in Liverpool, England, in 1903. Ordained in the British Methodist ministry, he has been pastor and district superintendent in Brighton and York, and now served in Norwich. There he continued to write new hymns "that fill the gap between the hymns of the first part of this century and the 'far-out' compositions that have crowded into some churches in the last decade or more." --Seven New Hymns of Hope , 1971. Used by permission.

Carlton R. Young

b. 1926 Harmonizer of "COMPLAINER" in The United Methodist Hymnal
