The Kingdom of God

Author: J. W. R. Appears in 2 hymnals First Line: In the visions of the night, God appeared in days of old Refrain First Line: Oh, the kingdom of our God shall be vanquish'd, never! never Lyrics: 1 In the visions of the night, God appeared in days of old, To a king, who lost in slumber, dream’d of empires grand and vast, Till an image rose before him, having head of purest gold, While of brass and silver, iron and clay, the other parts were cast. Chorus: Oh, the kingdom of our God shall be vanquish’d, never! never! But still onward o’er the nations it shall roll in endless sway; And our glorious Messiah, on his throne shall reign forever, While the angel host with earth’s redeem’d shall swell the joyful lay. 2 He beheld, and lo! a stone rolling down from mountain’s side, Crush’d the image into powder, and like chaff ‘twas scatter’d far; And the stone, like mountain rising, filled the earth both far and wide, Emblem that all kings and nations, homage give to Bethle’m’s star. [Chorus] 3 King of kings and Lord of lords! saints and angels join in praise, Jesus Christ, who hath redeem’d us unto glory evermore; We will join the swelling chorus, and to heav’n an anthem raise, Till the kingdom of our God shall fill the earth from shore to shore. [Chorus] Scripture: Daniel 2:36-45 Used With Tune: [In the visions of the night, God appeared in days of old]
