Representative Text

1 Let us march along in the narrow way,
Where the faithful few have trod,
Follow in His footsteps the live-long day,
Leaving all results with God.

Refrain:
Following His steps thro’ the long, long, way,
Leaning on the arm of His wondrous grace;
In the land above we shall dwell for aye,
And shall look on His blessed face.

2 There are foes to fight, there are souls to win,
So we dare not idle stand;
Strong in faith, we’ll conquer the pow’rs of sin,
Going forth at God’s command. [Refrain]

3 We will seek no laurels or worldly fame,
Knowing our reward will be,
If we fully trust in His blessed name,
Shining crowns of victory. [Refrain]

Lizzie De Armond was a prolific writer of children's hymns, recitations and exercises. When she was twelve years old her first poem was published in the Germantown, Pa. Telegraph, however, it was not until she was a widow with eight children to support that she started writing in earnest. She wrote articles, librettos, nature stories and other works, as well as hymns.
